ÉLISE MARCHAND

Writes about slow travel, mountain weather and the small hours nobody photographs.

All of the journal

Élise started Ailleurs after a winter spent walking the same valley every morning, watching the light arrive differently each time. She writes the journal’s long pieces: the ones about waiting, about weather turning, about the particular quiet of a place before anyone else is awake.

She is less interested in where to go than in how to be there. Her stories tend to end without an itinerary — which is, more or less, the point.

FIELD NOTES

Travel light. Come back with more

We prepare for trips by adding things — stops, plans, places we must not miss. What happens if you start by removing them.
