This started as a habit rather than a plan. One winter, one of us walked the same valley every morning for three months and watched it arrive differently each time — same path, same trees, and never the same morning twice. The notes from that winter turned into the first pieces here.
What we publish
Long pieces about being outside, and short ones about the practicalities that make being outside work. A story about the half hour after sunset. A note about why the ferry timetable matters more than the forecast. The occasional admission that we got a place wrong.
We write about three regions in any depth — the French Alps, the Italian Dolomites, the fjords of western Norway — because we would rather know three places well than fifty badly.

What we do not do
We do not sell trips, take commission on bookings, or accept payment to feature a place. Nothing here is an affiliate link. When a hut is unpleasant or a valley is ruined by traffic, we say so, which is only possible because nobody is paying us not to.
We also do not publish itineraries. A day planned to the hour is a day that cannot surprise you, and the surprise is the entire point.
